Welcome to the Strategic Studies Review (SSR), the graduate student-run, peer-reviewed journal of the School of International Service at American University. SSR bridges academic rigor with policy-relevant analysis, publishing original scholarship on strategic studies, foreign policy, global security, geoeconomics, and international affairs.

We are committed to elevating emerging scholar voices, fostering rigorous peer review, and contributing meaningfully to debates shaping our world. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. We welcome research articles, commentary, and analytic briefs from graduate students and early-career scholars.

SSR exists to elevate graduate student voices in strategic studies, foster professional development through peer review and editorial practice, and contribute meaningfully to debates in global security and international affairs.

Scope

We publish original scholarship across strategic studies, foreign policy, global security, geoeconomics, and international affairs. SSR welcomes research articles, policy commentary, and analytic briefs.
